Transition Services
Community Based Vocational Assessments
A community based vocational assessment provides students
with an opportunity to sample specific jobs and job
responsibilities within real work environments. Individual
assessments are based on a student’s vocational preferences
and abilities, which shall be utilized to assist in
planning for transition from school to work and adult
life.
Deaf Services
Our Transition Services Department provides regionally
based counselors who are fluent in Amercian Sign Language
and have a strong knowledge in deaf culture. The counselors
support students in making a successful transition from
school to the world of work and adult life.
Supported Employment
Employment is divided into three steps; job development,
job coaching and follow along services. Throughout these
steps each student is exposed to various types of employment
targeting areas of interest. Once employment is found,
a Transition Counselor will assist students in becoming
independent in their job and provide on going support
to ensure job retention.
Community Integration
Allies Transition Counselors provide employment readiness
training by using community resources to teach appropriate
social skills, behavior, hygiene and peer interaction.
Students will become familiar with application procedures,
interviewing techniques, and resume writing. Students
can volunteer their services at local businesses to
gain competitive employment skills while being accompanied
by a Transition Counselor.
IEP Meetings / Transition Planning
Transition Counselors are available to attend IEP meetings
to discuss vocational assessments and make recommendations
for future vocational services. Transition Counselors
will also assist families to navigate through the adult
service system and its resources.
Functional Skills Training
Allies learning center, located in Mercer County, NJ,
offers specialized classes which teach skills such as:
Computer Use at the Worksite, Conflict Resolution, Functional
Money Skills, Confidence Building, Stress Management
and Independent Living Skills.
Professional Consultation
Allies Transition Counselors will provide support to
schools in implementing Transition Programs for the
developmental disabled, learning disabled, and emotionally
disturbed students. This allows the students to remain
in their home school district, while receiving academic
and functional training necessary for graduation. In
addition, Allies offers professional development seminars
on best practices in transition that can be presented
in your school. Participants of these seminars will
receive continuing education credits.
