Expectations and Job Description of Allies, Inc. Board of Directors

Allies, Inc. at Hamilton Township, NJ exists to enrich the lives of people with special needs:

• Assist people with special needs to live and work as independently as possible.
• Provide opportunities for people with disabilities so they can contribute to their communities.
• Advocate for their inclusion in all aspects of their communities.

A board member serves the organization as a steward of its funds, assets, and resources.

Purpose of Board:

• To continually assess the organization so that it is viable within the environment in which we operate from year to year and achieving its mission.
• To develop and review governance policies by which the organization achieves its goals and maintains its mission.
• To ensure the organization’s financial condition and stability.
• To provide advocacy and guidance in ensuring that the direction of Allies is to provide quality services to people with special needs.

Specific Responsibilities:
FIDUCIARY

1. Be passionate about the mission and programs of the organization.
2. Establish, evaluate, shape and when appropriate amend the governance policies by which the organization is guided to achieve its mission and vision.
3. Be an active participant in all board affairs and meetings seeking the good of the organization while listening to and respecting differing viewpoints within the board.
4. Monitor Allies performance and ongoing condition of the organization.
5. Be a conduit for feedback from the community at large to the board to connect the organization to the community we serve as needs arise.
6. Review financial information and provide feedback.
7. Attend five (5) Board meetings annually.
8. Participate on 1 of the 5 committees at least once annually.
